Introduction
This is not a medical document.
This is a personal sharing of experience and understanding from one human to another.
Microdosing psilocybin mushrooms is the practice of taking a very small, sub-perceptual amount of the medicine. The goal is not to feel “high” or trip, but to invite subtle shifts in awareness, perspective and presence over time.
When done with intention, patience, and respect, microdosing can be a beautiful companion for healing, creativity, and self-awareness.
My Relationship with the Medicine
I approach this practice as sacred.
I believe psilocybin is a teacher — one that works with our nervous system, body, and spirit in gentle, ongoing ways.
I never “push” this practice on anyone. If you’re here, it’s because something in you is curious or called. Take that seriously. Listen to your body and heart. This is about relationship, not consumption.
What to Expect
Unlike a full psychedelic experience, a microdose is intended to be subtle.
Most people do not experience strong visual effects or a dramatic shift in consciousness. Instead, the changes are often gentle and easier to notice when looking back on the day rather than in the moment.
Some people describe feeling:
- A little more present and engaged with their surroundings.
- More aware of their thoughts, emotions, and body sensations.
- Less stuck in the same thoughts, reactions or routines.
- More open to creativity, curiosity, or new perspectives.
- A deeper sense of connection to themselves, others or nature.
At times, a microdose may also bring awareness to emotions, stress, or patterns that were already present beneath the surface. This is one reason many people find it helpful to begin slowly and create space for observation and reflection.
The experience is often less about adding something new and more about noticing what is already there.
Why Do People Microdose?
People choose to microdose for many different reasons. Some are looking for greater creativity or focus. Others are interested in emotional healing, self-awareness, or feeling more connected to their daily lives.
While every experience is different, people commonly report:
- Feeling more present and aware of their thoughts, emotions, and body sensations.
- Having a little more space before reacting to stress, frustration, or difficult situations.
- Seeing familiar challenges from a fresh perspective.
- Feeling more connected to creativity, nature, relationships, or meaningful activities.
- Becoming aware of emotions or patterns that were previously running in the background.
The effects are often subtle. Rather than creating a dramatic experience, many people describe microdosing as helping them notice what is already present with greater clarity and curiosity.
Finding Your Dose
- A typical microdose of Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms ranges from 0.05g–0.30g dried.
- The right dose varies from person to person. In general, a microdose should be sub-perceptual — you may notice a subtle shift in mood, awareness, or perspective, but not a pronounced altered state.
- If you experience significant visual effects, feel unable to focus on normal activities, or feel overwhelmed by the experience, the dose is likely too high for a microdose.
For those who are new to microdosing, I generally recommend starting with a lower dose and spending a little time getting to know the experience before increasing it.
Many people find that 100 mg offers a gentle introduction and allows them to observe how their body and mind respond. After several experiences, if the dose feels very subtle and you’re curious to explore further, you can always increase it in a future session.
There is no prize for taking more.
The intention is not intensity, but awareness. A lower dose often provides more room to listen, observe, and build trust with the experience over time.
Basic Protocols
1. Fadiman Protocol (3-Day Cycle)
- Day 1: Microdose
- Day 2: Rest (observe, integrate)
- Day 3: Rest
- Repeat~8–9 doses per month
2. Stamets Stack (5 On / 2 Off)
- Days 1–5: Microdose
- Days 6–7: Rest
- Often combined with Lion’s Mane + Niacin (“stack”)~20 doses per month
3. Every Other Day
- Day 1: Microdose
- Day 2: Rest
- Repeat~15 doses per month
Creating a Sacred Container
- Set an Intention: Ask yourself Why am I doing this? (healing, creativity, self-connection, etc.)
- Keep a Journal: Track mood, focus, body sensations, dreams, and emotional shifts.
- Choose Your Space: On dose days, create a calm morning — avoid rushing.
- Engage with Nature: A walk, sunlight, or grounding in the earth can help the medicine integrate.
- Integration Days Matter: Rest days are when your body and mind weave the lessons into daily life.
Give Yourself Space in the Beginning
In the early stages of working with microdosing, it’s helpful to create intentional space around your experience.
While some people eventually take microdoses during a normal day, beginning in a quieter environment allows you to better understand how the medicine interacts with your body and mind.
A microdose may feel uplifting, clear, or creatively energizing.
It may also bring subtle emotions or sensations to the surface — things that were already present but not fully noticed.
If your schedule is full or your attention is divided, it can be harder to meet these experiences with presence. This is often when people describe discomfort.
Creating a little space — even a slower morning or a few hours without pressure — allows you to build trust with the experience and respond with awareness rather than reactivity.
Over time, as your familiarity grows, you may find more flexibility. But in the beginning, less structure and more presence is often the most supportive approach.
Simple Reflection Questions
After a dose day, consider:
- How did I feel emotionally?
- Did I notice any changes in focus or creativity?
- Did I feel more connected or present?
- Did anything feel uncomfortable?
- What would I like to explore next time?
Practical Tips
- Take your microdose in the morning or early day to avoid sleep disruption.
- Eat lightly before dosing — avoid alcohol or other strong substances on dose days.
- Start low. You can always adjust in future cycles.
- If emotions surface, welcome them with curiosity rather than resistance.
A Note on Legality & Responsibility
Psilocybin mushrooms are still regulated or illegal in many places. This guide is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for medical or psychological advice.
The decision to microdose is entirely your own. Please approach with respect for the law, your health, and your own intuition.
Closing
This is an invitation to build a relationship with the medicine — not to treat it as a quick fix.
Like any deep friendship, it grows over time through presence, respect, and listening.
If this guide has reached you, trust your own discernment as you explore further.
May your path be gentle, aware, and rooted in your own truth.
