WoundCare Visit and Physical Therapy Dismissal, 9/16/24
A 2:30 PM wound care appointment brought difficult news—my doctor shared that he has never seen an infection heal with metal in place. Meanwhile, my 5:00 PM physical therapy session was cut short, as my PT decided to halt progress due to ongoing drainage and nerve pain. Despite the setbacks, I’m trying to find moments of progress and healing, especially during my evening physical therapy sessions, where I’ve incorporated conscious breathing, mindfulness, and music to transform my recovery into a holistic experience.

Two-Week Hip Surgery Follow-Up, 9/12/24
After a long day at Duke University for my two-week follow-up, I’m still dealing with sharp, stabbing pain in my hip. It feels like my leg is hanging by a thread, and even the slightest movement triggers a knife-like sensation. Despite this, my surgeon expected me to be walking and dismissed concerns about fluid build-up causing the pain. While lab results show improvement in infection markers, I’m finding it hard to push forward when every step feels overwhelming. For now, I’m holding on to hope and focusing on the next steps in recovery.
Hip Replacement Infection Recovery, 9/12/24
At my two-week follow-up, I reflected on the slow but steady recovery from my second hip surgery to clean out an infection. Pain has been decreasing, but my hip feels less stable after being opened up twice. I’ve been extra cautious, managing pain more effectively this time thanks to lessons learned from my first surgery. However, a new sharp pain has emerged, possibly due to fluid build-up. While I’m still unable to bear weight on my right side, I’m focused on navigating the road ahead with patience and awareness.
